Novation Launchpad X or 4th Lightpad Block?

Heey,

I was interested in getting one of the new Novation Launchpad X's for the 8x8 pads and then I thought instead, I could just add a 4th Lightpad to my existing blocks!

How realistic is it that I could mimic a Launchpad's functionality? The drums and melodic scales should all be pretty much covered with the ROLI Dashboard or Studio Player/Drums. Then I thought about it and 4x Lightpads have enough buttons/display area for sequencing & mixing.

What would I need to use 4x Lightpads as a launchpad/sequencer (in say, Bitwig). Would I need to learn and create a controller script for the specific DAW or would I only need to create a Littlefoot app... or controller script AND a Littlefoot. Or would it it need a full blown module via JUCE? ,'/

It was just an idea really. Do ROLI have any plans for creating something similar in the future? Like a more sophisticated version of the ROLI Holiday Sequencer http://jingle.roli.com/ :)

Hi there,

ROLI Dashboard has an Ableton Live Control mode for the Lightpad that allows for clip launch, as well as drum pad and note grid input.

Please refer to this article for detailed information about the mode and how to use it to control Ableton Live - https://support.roli.com/a/solutions/articles/36000019090

This mode is designed for a single Lightpad, though adapting the Littlefoot script to utilise multiple Lightpad M's would definitely be possible.

One of our creators also created a Lightpad Sequencer mode which allows for step sequencing of notes natively on the Lightpad, I would suggest checking out this link for more information - https://roli.com/stories/lightpad-block-littlefoot

To sum up, what you have described is absolutely possible through Littlefoot, so whether you should opt for another Lightpad or the Launchpad will largely depend on whether you want plug and play functionality, or whether you'd be interested in spending some time getting to know Littlefoot in order to create the mode yourself.

Hope that helps!

Very cool, thank you for the links Marcus, there's a lot of information to digest in there!

Downloaded BLOCKS Code and started poking around at the .Littlefoot files. It's both daunting and exciting :)
