ROLI instruments connect using MIDI-over-Bluetooth which requires a different connection process to standard Bluetooth pairing.


While our devices are designed to work with both Mac and Windows systems, MIDI-over-Bluetooth is only fully supported on Mac. On Windows, Bluetooth MIDI isn’t yet adequate for use with ROLI instruments. Here's how you can connect your ROLI device to your Mac via MIDI-over-Bluetooth:


  1. Turn on your ROLI device
    • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your Mac, and your ROLI device is in pairing mode:

      • ROLI Piano / Piano M

        • Push the power button once

        • A blue LED wave animation will appear on the keys, showing it’s ready for pairing

      • Seaboard 2 / Seaboard M / Seaboard BLOCK / Seaboard RISE 49 / Seaboard RISE 25

        • Push the power button once to turn on

        • The power button will blink blue, showing it’s ready for Bluetooth pairing

      • Lightpad M / Lightpad BLOCK

        • Push the power button once to turn on

        • A blue LED wave animation will appear on the surface, showing it’s ready for pairing

      • Live BLOCK, Loop BLOCK, Touch BLOCK (Control Blocks)

        • Push the two furthest left buttons to turn on the Block

        • It will automatically be ready for Bluetooth pairing

      • Airwave

        • Airwave does not support MIDI-over-Bluetooth, please connect via USB

  2. Open the “Audio MIDI Setup” app
    • You can find this in Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup.
  3. Open the MIDI Studio window
    • In the top menu bar, go to Window > Show MIDI Studio.
  4. Open Bluetooth Configuration
    • In the top menu bar, go to MIDI Studio > Open Bluetooth Configuration...
  5. Connect your ROLI device
    • Your ROLI device should appear in the list of available devices.
    • Click Connect next to your device name.
  6. Confirm connection
    • Once connected, close the Bluetooth Configuration window. Your ROLI device will appear in the MIDI Studio window.
    • You can now use the device with your ROLI software or MIDI capable 3rd party software instruments / DAWs.
