If several keys at one end of your ROLI keyboard play the same note as each other — and, where applicable, trigger the same LED instead of their own — the likely cause is the octave shift setting, not a hardware fault. This article explains what’s happening and how to resolve it.

Which products does this apply to?
  • ROLI Piano
  • ROLI Piano M
  • ROLI Seaboard 2
  • ROLI Seaboard M

Why does this happen?
Your ROLI keyboard’s octave shift buttons extend its playable range beyond the physical keys or keywaves. However, the MIDI specification limits notes to the range C-2 to G8. If you’ve used the octave shift buttons to move your keyboard to its highest or lowest setting, some keys at that end may fall outside this MIDI range — and those keys will instead trigger the same note (and LED) as the nearest available note within range. This is expected behavior; your keyboard is working as designed.

How to fix it
Press the octave shift button in the opposite direction until your keyboard’s pitch returns to a comfortable playing range. You can also briefly press both octave shift buttons at the same time to instantly reset to the default octave.
