Modes
Mapped Gestures: Air gestures drive Montage performance controls. You hear Montage.
Mapped + DAW: As with Mapped Gestures mode, but you will need to manually route ROLI Airwave Expression MIDI to Montage via your DAW. This avoids live MIDI data clashing with recorded MIDI when playing back from a DAW.
MIDI Controller: Montage is just the MIDI keyboard. You hear Airwave Player.
You can switch Montage Mode at any time using ROLI Airwave Control.
DAW Setup
1. Open ROLI Airwave Control.
2. Set Tracking Mode: to “Always On”.
3. Connect Montage. ROLI Airwave Control with changes current device to “Montage”.
4. Change Montage Mode to “Mapped + DAW”.
5. Open your DAW. Instructions here are for Ableton Live, but most DAWs work similarly.
- In Live's Link, 'Tempo & MIDI' settings, enable “Track” for both ROLI Airwave Expression and Montage ports for both inputs and outputs.
- Create a MIDI Track and: set MIDI 'From' to All Ins; set the Monitor to 'Auto'; and set MIDI To to 'Montage (Port 1)'
- Check that the MIDI data is correctly passing through the Montage and you can both record MIDI data and play with expression in real-time.
The first time you connect Montage, calibrate it within ROLI Airwave Player for correct tracking. Use the “Recalibrate” button in ROLI Airwave Control to open ROLI Airwave Player.
