Here we will go through how to assign the Airwave dimensions to any available parameter in Ableton Live 12.
To MIDI map Airwave dimensions in a DAW, we must send Air Dimensions in isolation. In Airwave Control, you can do this by disabling Air Dimensions while in MIDI Learn mode.
Each hand is sent separately on the following CC numbers:
CC21 — Air Grasp
CC22 — Air Slide Left
CC23 — Air Slide Right
CC24 — Air Glide Left
CC25 — Air Glide Right
CC26 — Air Raise Left
CC27 — Air Raise Right
CC28 — Air Tilt Left
CC29 — Air Tilt Right
CC30 — Air Flex Left
CC31 — Air Flex Right
Mapping Air Raise Right dimension to Ableton's Auto Filter
In the example below, we’ll manually map the Air Raise Right dimension to the Auto Filter Frequency knob.
1. Open Ableton’s Settings and ensure that the ROLI Airwave Expression Track and Remote boxes are checked.
2. Click the MIDI button in the top-right bar of Ableton. All assignable parameters will now turn purple.
3. Click on the Frequency knob of the Auto Filter device to select it.
4. Briefly send the desired Air Dimension by clicking on it once in ROLI Airwave Control (in this example we are using Air Rise Right). Once assigned, you’ll see the MIDI mapping for Air Rise (CC 27) appear in the MIDI Mappings list in the left-hand column.
5. Turn MIDI Learn off from ROLI Airwave Control and you will now be able to control the frequency knob of the Auto Filter device using the Air Raise Right dimension.
Note: When manually mapping CCs using MIDI Learn Mode in ROLI Airwave Control, you will need to mute the Air Dimensions in during playback. Otherwise, live Air Expression data overwrites the recorded data.
With these simple steps, you can map your Airwave's Air dimensions to any parameter in Ableton Live. If you need any additional help, please contact our Support Team for further assistance. Happy music-making!
